Philippines National Police (PNP) and other local security task forces use more than 900 radios and 40 cameras to maintain security at the 12th ASEAN Summit

MANILA, Philippines – 26 January 2007 – Motorola, Inc (NYSE:MOT), a global leader in critical radio communications, successfully deployed two Motorola Smartnet trunk radio networks and a digital security surveillance system in the island city of Cebu for the Philippines National Police (PNP).
.
The radio and surveillance networks had, by 10 December 2006, been fully deployed and tested by the security agencies to be ready for operation during the 12th ASEAN Summit. Security forces were also mobilized around the city and in the conference venues during the four-day event, held from 10 – 15 January 2007.

The radio network used by the PNP was deployed on Mount Busay as part of a nationwide rollout and consisted of a 5 channel MTC 3600 Site Controller and 600 ATS2500 subscriber handsets.

The shared city-wide surveillance network had over 40 mesh-enabled wireless Sony IP video cameras together with Motorola Canopy® 5.7GHz access points mounted on light poles covering the entire stretch of Cebu enabling continuous video surveillance throughout the Summit.

“The PNP has been long-time users of Motorola communications equipment, and we are very proud to have assisted both agencies in their preparation for the Summit,” said Chew Guan Sing, vice president, Sales, South East Asia, Motorola’s Networks & Enterprise. “What is more important is that the deployment of the radio and wireless surveillance networks were successful and had performed well to serve the needs of both agencies in ensuring the security and the safety of the ASEAN delegates around the clock. This is once again a testament to Motorola’s technology leadership and our ability to deliver seamless communications in any critical operations.”
