BEA Systems Extends Global Innovation Leadership Role with the Opening of R&D Center in Korea

R&D Center Focused on Leveraging Industry-Leading Technologies to Develop Optimized SOA and Telecommunications Solutions for Local Market; BEA Korea Celebrates 10 Years of Success

Seoul and San Jose, Calif.—Dec. 15, 2006—BEA Systems, Inc., a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced the opening of its third R&D Center in Korea. The Center will focus on delivering Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and telecommunications solutions, based on BEA’s product and solutions portfolio, to the Korean domestic market.

The R&D Center, based in Seoul, will help to promote cooperation with domestic solution vendors in order to help create optimized solutions to suit the local market requirements. The Center has already started working on various R&D projects for the telecommunication industry in concert with domestic solution vendors, including government agencies, university laboratories, third party solution vendors in telco industry and other major telco companies. The establishment of the BEA Systems Korea R&D Center is designed to be a key component of BEA’s global innovation efforts. The locations of other BEA R&D centers include the United States, China and India.

Korea has leading markets in the areas of telecommunications and IT infrastructure. As a leading provider of software infrastructure in the country, BEA Korea has gained momentum in this key market, growing 33.6% year-over-year in Q3. Examples of BEA’s SOA customers in Korea include DACOM and the Military Manpower Administration.

The opening ceremony of the Korea R&D Center was attended by Junhyong Noh, the Minister of the Ministry of Information and Communication in the Republic of Korea, as well as some of BEA’s business partners. BEA also announced the appointment of Hanju Kim as head of the Korea R&D Center. Kim reports to Yip Ly, Vice President of Strategic Business Development in Asia Pacific, BEA Systems.
