Precise Biometrics AB (publ.), which develops and sells world-leading and user-friendly biometric security solutions based on fingerprints and smart cards, has received a very positive recommendation by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). SAS was very pleased with the results of the assessment and production tests of Precise Biometrics’ biometric solution for secured baggage checks at the Kallax airport , and is initiating a rollout of the program through out the whole country. The first airports being implemented are Ängelholm and Ronneby, where Precise Biometrics’ biometric solution will be in use by tomorrow.

The result of tests of the biometric technology implemented by SAS showed an improvement in passenger flow beyond expectations, and a warm welcome to the introduction of biometrics by passengers. Following the successful tests, the biometric solution will be implemented at the Ängelholm and Ronneby airports tomorrow.

“The regulations for identity checks on domestic flights were tightened up in the spring, and as a result of a resolution by the EU we are proud to say that as the first airline we have been able to live up to these security requirements. We are also developing flexible and simple travel for our customers now that we use the biometric solution at our airports. We are very satisfied with our choice to use Precise Biometrics’ biometric system and we have great confidence in Precise Biometrics”, says Susanne Dahlberg, Vice President Commercial, Scandinavian Airlines Sweden.

In time, fingerprint reading will take place for all flights in Scandinavia and the technology will affect some 10 million passengers a year. SAS is the first airline in the world to introduce biometric security checks to guarantee that passengers who hand in baggage are identical with those on the flight.

“I see great potential in this type of project and have high expectations that our biometric solution will attract more airlines and airports around the world. The SAS order illuminates the fact that biometric technology is not only a security solution, but also contributes to saving time and improving logistics. Biometrics is about a lot more than just security solutions”, says Thomas Marshall, President and CEO of Precise Biometrics AB.
