MCB Delivering Landmark Mobile Payment Services With VeriFone Vx 610 Wireless Solution

London - October 03, 2006 - VeriFone Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: PAY) today announced that Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) Limited is delivering landmark mobile payment services to merchants in Mauritius with VeriFone’s Vx 610 wireless solution. Delivered in partnership with network operator Emtel, this is the first mobile payment solution to be marketed by a bank in Mauritius.

Using VeriFone’s portable Vx 610, card transactions are no longer tied to a countertop and a telephone line. The wireless handheld device enables transactions to be processed via fast General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) networks and allows new points of payment to be set up anywhere, enhancing the customer experience in hospitality environments, such as restaurants, and delivering greater payment convenience for a range of retail services, including home delivery.

“MCB strives to be at the forefront of technology,” said Angelo Létimier, senior manager of MCB’s Cards Strategic Business Unit. “Back in 1986, we were the first acquiring bank, and now we are the first in Mauritius to launch mobile point of sale with GPRS technology. We thank our partners Emtel and VeriFone in helping us deploy this innovative payment solution.”

The Vx 610 offers enhanced security features with advanced 3DES encryption and has been EMV-approved. The flexible, portable system also offers greater peace of mind to the cardholder whose card always stays within sight.

“Our Vx 610 portable powerhouse is delivering real benefits and opening new market segments for our customers across this region,” said Nigel Bidmead, managing director for VeriFone EMEA. “VeriFone has built a strong reputation as a major innovator in wireless technology at the POS, and we are proud to be enabling MCB to deliver this important industry first in Mauritius.”

Emtel CEO Shyam Roy said: “Emtel, with its history of innovation, is pleased to work with its privileged partner, the MCB, in another first in the lives of Mauritians. We will continuously enhance our network and provide for the needs and demands in terms of the comfort and quality of life of Mauritians.”
