Ocean Literacy is Course of the Month
Ocean Literacy, a core course from Ocean First Education, is the featured course this month, available to any student, parent, homeschooler or educator.
Ideal for any students from third grade through high school, the course uses engaging and interactive learning tools to explore the seven tenets of ocean literacy as established by NOAA (the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). The seven tenets of ocean literacy include: The Earth has one big ocean with many features; the ocean and life in the ocean shape the features of Earth; the ocean is a major influence on weather and climate; the ocean made Earth habitable; the ocean supports a great diversity of life and ecosystems; the ocean and humans are inextricably interconnected; the ocean is largely unexplored.
“This course provides a fundamental understanding of critical concepts and lays the groundwork for future study and exploration,” said Graham Casden, founder of Ocean First Education. “Building the ranks of future scientists who have a passion for marine study is one of our priorities, and this course lays the groundwork for key concepts -- including the fact that we are all connected to the health and well-being of the ocean -- no matter where we live.”
The course has been downloaded more than 1,000 times from both the Ocean First Education website and from Educents (http://www.educents.com), an online marketplace for content creators and publishers.
The Ocean Literacy course includes a student guide, glossary and online assessments.
