SAN FRANCISCO--June 2, 2016--Bob Messerschmidt, CEO and Founder of Cor, joins an exclusive list of participants to conduct research at an invite-only workshop hosted by The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and Stanford Medicine X. The workshop will be held on June 2 at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington, District of Columbia.

OSTP and Stanford Medicine X have joined forces to bring together top leaders in research to identify what’s working in the science and technology community, strengthen innovators in the space and accelerate progress. The event advances OSTP’s mission of providing the President and senior staff with accurate and timely advice in the science and technical space. Together, the participants will ensure the policies of the Branch are informed by science and properly coordinated to provide the utmost benefit to society.

Messerschmidt was formally invited because of his pedigree as an industry leader in biochemistry and spectroscopy. He is the Founder and CEO of Cor, a new health and wellness product that delivers personalized at-home insights from a tiny blood sample. Prior to Cor, he was the Director of Platform Architecture at Apple, where he worked to implement sensor infrastructure in the Apple Watch. Messerschmidt has also co-edited two books, Infrared Microspectroscopy: Theory and Applications, and Design Sample Handling and Applications of Infrared Microscopy. He has 59 issued and pending US inventions.

During the workshop, Messerschmidt will focus on six prime opportunity areas, including: shaping research priorities, enrolling in research through a seamless process, facilitating a delightful research experience, co-creating research with patients, preparing data and results and publishing and disseminating results.

“I’m honored to have been chosen to participate in this prestigious event,” said Bob Messerschmidt. “I’ve spent the past thirty years fully committed to advancing ways that biochemistry and spectroscopy can improve human lives. Science and research isn’t a career for me--it’s a passion--and I’m looking forward to collaborating with the top minds in science and informing the administration on how we can work together to improve health in our society.”

The workshop derives from the Precision Medicine Initiative launched by President Obama in 2015. Since inception, the program has set to revolutionize how we improve health and treat disease. Advances from the initiative have already led to monumental discoveries and several new treatments.
