Dan Smith’s Bid for Chula Vista City Council Builds Momentum
Grassroots Efforts Ramping Up to Unseat Incumbent
A healthy mixture of business and residential growth is the best way to ensure our city’s economic prosperity
Dan Smith, a local business owner, attorney and entrepreneur, is set to challenge incumbent Patricia Aguilar for Chula Vista City Council Seat 2 in November. Smith, a first-time candidate for public office, heads into the November showdown as the top vote-getter challenger in the June primary.
“A strong grassroots efforts is the backbone of any good campaign,” said Smith. “I walked precincts, made phone calls and delivered a strong message of job creation that clearly resonated with Chula Vista voters. My opponent wants to keep Chula Vista a residential town, and that’s not the way jobs are created.”
“Local Chula Vista jobs ease traffic congestion, reduce carbon footprint and are environmentally responsible. A healthy mixture of business and residential growth is the best way to ensure our city’s economic prosperity,” added Smith.
Technology hubs and small assembly warehouses will jump-start local economy jobs and attract entrepreneurs. Smith says the Bay Front and the 905/SR125 connection to the border are key, adding, “The best and brightest retired military live here. They want work in our city, close to family.
”With absentee ballots starting to be mailed out this week, Smith has been waging a significant grassroots campaign to challenge incumbent Councilwoman Aguilar.“We are walking hundreds of houses a week and making thousands of phone calls,” explained Smith. “We are going to be very competitive come election night.”
A long-time resident of Chula Vista, Dan is a husband and father of three children, all of whom attend school in Chula Vista.
