Sports Illustrated to Launch mySI

WEBWIRE

August 21, 2006 - Sports Illustrated today announced the launch of mySI, a free customizable, downloadable desktop application that brings sports fans the most relevant news from SI.com and across the web about their favorite teams. The product, which launches on SI.com on August 30, in conjunction with the magazine’s NFL Preview issue, uses an SI-developed “recommendation engine” that aggregates content and links out to the top stories about the teams.

In addition, the mySI application provides a ticker with the latest sports news, an across-the-web player search news feature, injury tracker, plus the latest stats, standings and schedules. More in-depth coverage is available on SI.com’s newly re-launched NFL team pages (a jpeg featureing a team page with the mySI sports ticker is attached).

mySI - which is sponsored by Comcast, Miller Lite, Nissan and Radio Shack - also includes a rotating screensaver featuring full-screen team photo galleries. The mySI application, which was built on top of MercurySports’ ScreenServer® network and is the first of its kind, will roll out with additional sports in 2007, including baseball, basketball and college sports.

mySI will be available for downloading on SI.com beginning Wednesday, August 30.

SI.com, the home of Sports Illustrated on the Web, is a 24/7 news site that provides up-to-the-minute scores, breaking news, broad-band video, statistics and analysis of domestic and international sports. SI.com features the unparalleled journalism and photography unique to Sports Illustrated from its staff of award-winning writers, including Rick Reilly, Peter King and Tom Verducci. The web site, which posts more than 150 original stories each week and houses the magazine’s weekly content as well as specials such as SI Swimsuit and Sportsman of the Year, is also home to a large community of fantasy sports players and leagues and has a searchable SI covers database spanning almost 50 years of Sports Illustrated magazines. As the leading sports web site to reach professional men, SI.com won the 2005 and 2006 EPpy Award for the Best Internet Sports Service with over 1 million unique users per month and, in June of last year, was named as one of the 10 best magazine web sites from the editors of the Chicago Tribune.
