Give2TheTroops® Visits President George W. Bush at the White House

WEBWIRE

(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 18, 2006) HARTFORD, CT – Give2TheTroops® (www.give2thetroops.org), a non-profit, all-volunteer 501 (c) 3 charity was one of fourteen America Supports You organizations invited to a private meeting with President George W. Bush at the White House on June 26, 2006. The meeting consisted of a discussion of the ongoing mission in Iraq and the support efforts for U.S. military troops at home and abroad.

Give2TheTroops was founded in December, 2002, by Andi Grant, the wife of a Marine deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Andi she decided she would do everything in her power to support our troops as they ventured far from home with boundless honor and bravery.

In fewer than four years, she had not only had built Give2TheTroops, an international non-profit and non-partisan organization sending much-needed care packages, letters, and other heartwarming comforts from home to troops in all corners of the world, but Andi (shown in the photo with President George W. Bush), found herself at the White House meeting the President of the United States.

She was one of six people asked to speak by the President, and with passion in her heart and tears in her eyes, she told the Chief Executive how her husband, Sgt. Brian Grant, had also met the President, though under much sadder circumstances. The occasion was September 11, 2001, and on that momentous day, Brian voluntarily went to the World Trade Center (Ground Zero) to help with the rescue efforts. While there, he met the President and NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Indeed, that tragic day was the catalyst which sparked Brian’s re-enlistment in the U.S. Marines - this time, as a reservist.

As Andi tearfully described her feelings, the President said, “You’re making me cry now.” and she saw the President’s eyes were indeed filled with tears.

Remarking on her trip to the White House, Andi says, “It was an honor and an emotional experience to meet the President. He was very warm and caring and really listened to what I said. I was embarrassed that I broke down in tears, but later, the President hugged me and gave me a kiss on my forehead, and told me, ’You are a very special person’ - I will never forget that.”

Give2TheTroops’ mission is to support the physical, moral, and spiritual health of America’s armed forces in combat zones around the world through the letters and packages prepared and shipped by caring volunteers.™

Thanks to the dedication of their volunteers and donors, the organization has been extremely successful in supporting the troops. The numbers speak for themselves: Give2TheTroops has sent more than 1.5 Million pounds of donations and more than 3 million cards to more than half a million troops around the globe!
