California Apartment Complex Residents Voice Mold Concerns

Earlier this month, KTXL Fox 40 broadcast a report about health conditions and residents’ concerns over living conditions in their apartment complex in Marysville, California. Residents were interviewed and showed reporters broken air conditioners, insects, sewage backing up in bathtubs and mold growing through walls.
 
According to the report, two pregnant women living in the complex told reporters they had previously had miscarriages while living in the apartments. The news story also showed numerous young children living at the complex.
 
Anyone can be sensitive to exposure to mold in their homes, but this can be especially true for young children and the elderly. Allergic reactions to mold are common and can be immediate or delayed. Repeated or single exposure to mold, mold spores or mold fragments may result in non-sensitive individuals even becoming sensitive to mold.
 
In addition to causing allergies, mold is also a known asthma trigger. Some types of mold can even cause infections in susceptible individuals. Another concern is mycotoxins, which are a type of toxin produced by some types of mold.
