DataFission Creates a Platform to Search the Unsearchable and the Digital Universe
San Jose, CA, USA May 1, 2013 – DataFission (http://www.datafission.com) is helping solve a world problem. That is, the inability to logically search all unstructured data. After years of assiduous efforts, Datafission has created an innovative approach to tackle this challenge of exponentially growing unstructured data.
DataFission is a platform that enables content-based searching for digital “Everything” In other words, doing for unstructured data what major search engines have done for text. The platform also makes connections, links, and associations using auto-generated content-based tagging. This allows for the equivalent of Social Networking for everything. For reference, the Unstructured Data Search Markets consists of Unstructured Search, Social Networks, Products, Sports, Deep Data Analytics, Surveillance, Image Analysis and Video Forensics, and Medical Imaging which cumulatively are valued today at over half a trillion dollars and continues to grow.
DataFission is designed with scalable architectures in mind so to work most efficiently with the industry’s leading hardware providers such as Dell, Cray, SGI, IBM, HP, Intel, Supermicro and the likes. This parallel and scalable platform will deliver Data Intensive, High-Performance Computing solutions for all unstructured data.
The Digital Universe (DU)
The DU is defined to encompass the sum total of the entire world’s digital data collected, generated, processed, communicated, and stored. The size and growth rate of the DU continues to increase at an exponential rate with the estimated size of the DU growing to over 40 zettabytes by the year 2020. The bulk of this data consists of “unstructured data”. Unstructured data comes in many forms, including: image, video, audio, communications, network traffic, data from sensors of all kinds, text, etc. Unstructured data is stored in opaque containers as raw binary, compressed, encrypted, or free form data, as opposed to structured data that fits into row/column formats. It is not only important to know the size and rate of growth of the DU, but also to know the distribution of data which is estimated to be ~88% video and image data; ~10% communications, sensor, audio, and music data; and ~2% text. It is also estimated that only 3-5% of the 2% textual DU is currently indexed and made searchable by major search engines.
DataFission is a privately held company headquartered in the heart of the Silicon Valley, with visions to become the technology partner to the world’s leading solution providers, enterprises, and government agencies by helping them incorporate our innovative solutions to fully utilize unstructured data.
