If you don’t want to be called Rover then stop being a Hoover, (vacuum that is!) Here are three good tricks that can help you survive the holidays as thin as you want to be.”
Trick Number 1 - Close your eyes and picture a turkey with all the trimmings (or any food you crave). Chances are you see a colorful inviting picture. Now make the picture in black and white. Does it change its appeal? Change the perspective even more. Make the picture half the size and push it to the other side of the room. Watch your desire disappear.
Trick Number 2 – When you are sitting in front of your holiday dinner plate, slow down and smell your food before you put it in your mouth. Smell is a major part of eating. If you take perfume and put it under your nose, it has a scent. However, if you keep it there for more than a couple of moments, it loses its scent. The brain cannot register it. The same is true with food. Pay close attention to the experience of eating: (sometimes called mindful eating). Notice the change in flavor has you chew it. It simply won’t taste as good when your stomach is full.
Trick Number 3 - If you have a craving for a particular food, close your eyes, and pretend you are eating it. Your unconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between real and imagined experience. When you use your imagination in this way, your body will think you ate it and really have a sense of satisfaction.
