Hydromantis Environmental Software Solutions, Inc. (Hydromantis) and Mohawk College (Mohawk) announced today the development of a Carbon Footprint Model for Wastewater Treatment to be made available for GPS-X™, the global wastewater industry’s leading dynamic process simulator.

“This was an impressive partnership that allowed our students, Andrew Blackbourn and Zahraa Khalil, to work alongside Hydromantis’s industry professionals” said Mark Yendt, a Professor with Mohawk’s Faculty of Engineering and himself an early developer of wastewater software.  “The company benefits from the high calibre training our students receive and, in turn, our students gain valuable real-world experience.”

The project, funded through a FedDev Ontario program, included:  a review and summary of proposed and existing carbon methodologies for wastewater treatment plants; the formulation of a consistent framework applicable to both wastewater treatment and bio-solids handling; and, an implementation of a carbon estimation technology methodology for GPS-X™.

“Extending the dynamic modelling capability of GPS-X™ with carbon emissions models offers wastewater professionals an advanced tool to evaluate optimum plant configurations or operational strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and generate offsets” said Rajeev Goel, Hydromantis VP of Technology.
