Last month, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of over 10,000 woman’s bicycles imported into the United States by a Pennsylvania firm.  The recall was prompted by reports of the Fuji Saratoga Women’s Bicycles experiencing broken frames during use.  The bicycles were sold from November 2007 through December of 2011.

Also last month, the CPSC announced a recall of crystal chandeliers that were also imported from China by a New Jersey firm.  Three models of the chandelier, sold from January 2007 through December of 2010 are being recalled.  The recall was prompted by reports of a mounting loop failing causing the chandeliers to fall from the ceiling.

Product recalls such as these happen all the time.  Many of these recalls are prompted by metallurgical failures that create unsafe situations and defective products.  EMSL Analytical, Inc., a leading metallurgical testing laboratory, has been helping regulators and industry test products for safety and product integrity issues related to metals used in products.
