(3/1/2012 - Austin, Texas)  Black Box Social Media LLC has begun an online petition to  ask Facebook to bring back the default landing tabs to its new Facebook Timeline for Brands upgrade announced yesterday at the fMC event.  In the new Facebook Timline for Brands, Page administrators will no longer be able to direct ’non-fans’ to a default landing Page.

“This change will have a negative impact on online marketers,” says Nick Bridges, Co-Founder of Black Box Social Media, a social media marketing firm..  “For many internet marketers and business owners this has been a hugely important component of their marketing efforts on Facebook.  Now, new users will be directed to the Facebook wall and marketers will miss out on opportunities to promote unique contests towards new members.”

In order to let Facebook know of their displeasure, Black Box Social Media has created an online petition for others who are upset with this development to sign.

“Our goal is to get 100,000 people to sign and give this information to Facebook,” continues Mr. Bridges.

According to Facebook, the default landing tabs are mixed in with the rest of the applications, and if you want to run a promotion, then you can use paid advertising to promote your tabs.

“Over the last year and a half, Facebook has quietly snuffed out the methods of individuals and businesses that had found ways of marketing for free using the social media platform,” explains Mr. Bridges.  "This is just the next step in monetizing the platform and the timing is just right considering Facebook’s anticipated IPO.”

“This is not the first time that Black Box Social Media has stood up for a change to Facebook. In early 2011 an Algerian hacker network gained access to 1000′s of Facebook pages and removed the rightful administrators from those pages and began posting messages concerning their own agendas (even blackmailing and threatening administrators for retaliating).”

Although Facebook never made a public statement about the issues surrounding these happenings or the actions taken by Black Box Social Media  and their brigade of other marketers frustrated by the lack of action on Facebook’s part, Facebook did quickly make changes to the security settings for anyone trying to add or delete an administrator for a page.

By obtaining enough signatures on the petition, Black Box Social Media hopes to send a message to Facebook to return the right to choose what message is received by people that visit their Fan pages.
