L.J. Star Receives Breakthrough Products of the Year Award for Fiber Optic Sightglass Light

Twinsburg, Ohio – January 5, 2011 – L.J. Star has been awarded a 2011 Breakthrough Products of the Year Award from Processing magazine for its Lumiflex™ Fiber Optic Luminaire (Model USL08 LF-EX). This explosion-proof sightglass light is specially designed for the illumination of process operations in reactors, vessels and pipelines, in hazardous zones within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical and petrochemical processing industries.

As one of the most prestigious awards in its field, the 2011 Breakthrough Products of the Year Award recognizes unique products introduced between October 2010 and September 2011 that have made a significant contribution to the process industries.

Last year, L.J. Star developed the USL08 LF-EX in response to feedback from customers who desired a more reliable fiber optic sightglass light that delivered higher quality output than competing products on the market. The luminaire is ideal for mounting on sightglasses where there is limited space or where vibrations can shorten bulb life. It is UL 1598 and 844 listed to Class I, Division 1 and 2.

The USL08 LF-EX focuses intense light through a fiber optic bundle that illuminates the interior of the vessel. The compact design of the luminaire’s light guide enables light to be projected through a small area of the sightglass, benefitting customers in two key ways: It saves money by eliminating the need for a second sightglass for viewing, and it saves space because it takes up very little room on the vessel.

The USL08 LF-EX sightglass light produces over 30% more light than competing products. Because the bulb lasts over 6,000 hours, which is two to three times longer than other fiber optic luminaires, and requires only 39 W of power, it provides a highly cost-effective lighting solution over its long operational life.
