(St. Petersburg) -- Admiral Farragut Academy senior quarterback Kyle Craichy led his team to a 42-13 win over Lakeland’s Victory Christian Academy last Friday and became the 2011 football season’s first  Channel 10 and HighSchoolSports.net Player of the Week.  Craichy completed 9 of 16 passes for 231 yards and one touchdown as the Admiral Farragut Blue Jackets defeated the Victory Christian Storm.  It was a sweet victory for Admiral Farragut since their only two losses last year, including a first round playoff loss, were against Victory Christian.

Kyle Craichy, a powerful force at quarterback standing 6’ 3” and weighing 185 pounds, is one of week one’s top-rated passing quarterbacks in Florida.  Craichy gave credit for the victory over Victory Christian and his being named Player of the Week to his team.  “I owe this recognition to my teammates, our offensive line, running game, defense and special teams.  They [Victory Christian] had to stack the box with eight men to try to stop our running game and that opened up the pass, and our defense kept getting us the ball back.”

Admiral Farragut Football Coach Chris Miller was excited about Friday night’s big win. “They’ve beaten us a few years in a row to prevent a run for us in the playoffs so we had a mind-set going into this game to set a tone.  They loaded up everyone in the box, so we passed the ball early to set up the run. Then everything opened up for us.”

In his coverage of last Friday’s game between Admiral Farragut and Victory Christian, Channel 10 sports reporter Michael Moore wrote, “Admiral Farragut looks like a team that could challenge for a state championship. Using a balanced attack both on the ground and through the air, the Blue Jackets easily defeated the Victory Christian Storm.”

Craichy and Admiral Farragut are receiving a lot of media attention this year.  Bright House Sports Network wrote, “Admiral Farragut hasn’t forgotten about some key losses to Victory Christian in the previous season.  Friday night, they got their revenge in a 42-13 stomping of the Storm.”  Here’s what BHSN wrote about Craichy - “Kyle Craichy was impressive at quarterback for the Blue Jackets, throwing for 230 yards and a TD.”

Chris Girandola, sports writer for The St. Pete Times and TampaBay.com, wrote this about the Admiral Farragut Blue Jackets, “The Class 2A Urban team has a quarterback who can throw, a quarterback who can run, several players who can line up in the backfield, a bevy of wide receivers who can fly and a kicker who is accurate on field goals.”

Girandola quoted Craichy as saying, “We have a lot of weapons and we have an opportunity to do some big things. Our offensive line played great and gave me plenty of time to take advantage of our skill guys. It is comforting as a quarterback to have time to get the ball to the guys who can do something with it.”

Kyle’s younger brother Austin also plays for Farragut and is also a quarterback. He plays special teams, offense and defense for the Blue Jackets.  Both Kyle and Austin have played quarterback since they were 6 years old and both train with QB Guru Tom Martinez who has been Tom Brady’s QB coach since he was 13 years old.  “These boys are special [Kyle and Austin]. Kyle understands the game, has a big arm and is very accurate.  He has really been able to grasp what I teach and his throwing mechanics show it.  Austin has great feet, some of the best I have seen. By the time he is Kyle’s age he will also be a force to be reckoned with,” Tom Martinez said. Martinez has coached or trained some of the best pro football players, including future Hall of Famer Tom Brady, QB for the New England Patriots, and Pro Bowler Matt Cassel, QB for the Kansas City Chiefs. Coach Martinez has amassed more than 1,400 wins and more than 30 league championships in three sports during more than 30 years in college athletics. Kyle and Austin Craichy also trained with former NFL QB Jeff Carlson and of course their father from an early age.

Admiral Farragut, with a great start at 1-0-0, is ranked 5th in the state in their division and ranked 3rd in the state in total offense among all divisions for week one.  The Blue Jackets will play the Shorecrest Prep Chargers this Friday night at the Shorecrest field.

Kyle Craichy is also a classical pianist, 2nd Degree Black Belt in Yon Ch’uan Christian Martial Arts, basketball shooting guard, homeschooler, and has a 4.0 GPA.  Kyle is the oldest of five children. His parents are KC and Monica Craichy, Founders of Living Fuel – The Leader in Superfood Nutrition.
