BEIJING — Burson-Marsteller China has announced the opening of a representative office in mainland China, at Shenzhen. Kelly Yang, a Director previously based in Burson-Marsteller China’s Guangzhou operation, will lead the new office.

“Shenzhen is a strategic location for Chinese and multinational companies, covering consumer, technology, property and financial institutions.” said Cindy Tian, Executive Chairwoman, Burson-Marsteller China. “These organizations focus on the domestic and global markets, and require both local and international expertise and counsel to communicate their purpose to consumers, partners and government. Burson-Marsteller’s latest office in China will extend our liaison network and help us better understand the needs of our clients in Shenzhen and the surrounding cities.”

“Our presence in southern China began by advising the energy and electronics industries, but as the real estate sector has grown, so has our property expertise,” said Yang. “Shenzhen is one of the most vibrant real estate markets in China, and our new office will give companies in this area a better understanding of our renowned China property practice.”

Yang added: “B-M Shenzhen will also give us a new window on the communications talent marketplace and provide local perspectives and insights from southern China.”

“B-M is again expanding in proximity to our growing portfolio of clients based in southern China seeking excellence in both domestic and overseas communications,” said Bob Pickard, Chief Executive of Burson-Marsteller in Asia-Pacific. “This new office’s local presence and global connectivity will help accelerate our business momentum, especially at a time when so many Chinese enterprises are rising to the challenge of global corporate communications for the very first time.”

Burson-Marsteller entered China in 1985 at the invitation of the Xinhua News Agency and became one of the first global public relations firms to operate in the People’s Republic of China. In 1992, Burson-Marsteller China was established through a joint venture. Currently, Burson-Marsteller has branch offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou to provide public relations, digital and social media, public affairs and government relations services. Burson-Marsteller China also has offices in Chengdu and Shenzhen, which conduct research and liaison work for the company. Kelly Yang will continue to report to Christina Wu, Burson-Marsteller China’s Market Leader for Southern China.
