DirectRooms.com – 2011’s Oslo Festival of Church Music expected to attract thousands
Oslo’s annual celebration of international sacred music through the ages will kick off this year on 25 March and run to 3 April in the cathedral, churches and other venues across the city. The full spectrum of church music from the 16th century to the modern day popular sacred songs and hymns will be presented by international artistes, composers and conductors from London, Paris, Stockholm, Amsterdam and Berlin, as well as from Norway itself.
The festival began 10 years ago and has grown in size and popularity, attracting more visitors each year to listen to performances and attend seminars, high masses and other church services, master classes and lectures. Hotels in Oslo and at its international airport are expecting a considerable increase in reservations, as the festival now attracts many visitors from the rest of Europe as well as from across Norway.
As Oslo is a well-known visitor destination for both business and pleasure, shortages of accommodation may occur, according to DirectRooms. The online reservation market leader recommends booking rooms in cheap Oslo Airport hotels (http://directrooms.com/norway/hotels/oslo-hotels/airport-price1.htm) well in advance.
Performances at the festival will include Brahms’ ‘Deutsches Requiem’, an organ concert and the closing concert will be Mozart’s Requiem, one of the most-loved sacred compositions ever written. A work commissioned for the festival, entitled ‘Sommarens Maria’, will be premiered on the last day of the event. Early church music is also well covered this year with, amongst other performances, Academia Bizantina, conducted by Ottavio Dantone.
Lek Boonlert, DirectRooms.com marketing director, comments, “We recommend that anyone who is planning to travel to Oslo for the Church Music Festival reserve accommodation in advance of their trip. This is the way to savings as well as ensuring a good room.”
