Bombardier Aerospace today announced a major ramp-up in aftermarket services for its business aircraft operators in China. The ramp-up, which includes a new regional support office (RSO), parts depot and Line Maintenance Facility (LMF), as well as a newly appointed Director, Business Development, is part of Bombardier’s planned investment of up to $30 million US aimed at boosting support for its growing customer base in the region.

This investment is the first phase of a much broader strategy to establish a world-class service and support network centered in China and supported by satellite facilities throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

“With these investments, we are laying the groundwork for a stronger, fully integrated Bombardier support system in Asia-Pacific,” said James Hoblyn, President, Customer Services & Specialized and Amphibious Aircraft, Bombardier Aerospace. “China will play a critical role in the development of our business in the next five years, and we want to make sure our operators can count on having the highest level of support and service when and where they need it.”

New Hong Kong Regional Support Office
Bombardier’s new full-scale Hong Kong RSO will significantly boost the technical expertise, flight-operations support and account management support available to the growing number of Learjet, Challenger and Global aircraft customers in the region. The 1,000 sq. ft (93 sq.m.) office, the seventh to open in the past three years, is located in Hong Kong’s Citygate complex, five minutes from Hong Kong International Airport. When fully operational, it will be staffed by an office manager, two Field Service Representatives (FSR), a customer liaison pilot, a customer service account manager and a parts logistics specialist.

New parts depot in Hong Kong
Bombardier’s new Hong Kong parts depot will ensure faster delivery of the high-demand parts to Learjet, Challenger and Global aircraft operators in China, once it is fully operational at the end of March 2011. The new depot will be managed by Metrojet, which has served as an Authorized Service Facility (ASF) and LMF for Bombardier business aircraft since 2007, at Hong Kong International Airport. The Hong Kong depot will extend the reach of the company’s existing parts facilities in the region, located in Beijing, Singapore, Narita and Sydney.

New Line Maintenance Facility in Jinan
On March 8, Bombardier named STAECO, a leading maintenance solutions provider based in Jinan, as an LMF for Challenger 604 and Challenger 605 aircraft. Bombardier expects to authorize STAECO to service other business aircraft models in the coming months. By the end of 2011, the company will have invested nearly $500,000 US in ground support equipment and added a minimum of 15 factory-trained technicians to bolster its maintenance network in Mainland China. A longstanding Bombardier collaborator, STAECO was first designated an ASF for Bombardier’s CRJ Series commercial aircraft in 2006.

New Director, Business Development, in Beijing
Bombardier has also appointed Gaëtan Dureau as Director, Business Development, Bombardier Customer Services, based in Beijing. Mr. Dureau is responsible for establishing a strong, consistent presence and for creating new opportunities for Bombardier’s aftermarket services in China. He brings a wealth of regional experience to his new position, having held positions of increasing importance throughout Asia for over 30 years, including sales management positions and experience as a FSR for Bombardier business aircraft in Kuala Lumpur and Beijing.
