Burson-Marsteller has hired Katie Myler, senior media advisor to the Leader of the Opposition, Ed Miliband MP, as a Director and Senior Consultant. Myler will join the firm in December, reporting to Burson-Marsteller’s Corporate lead, Chris Cartwright.

Myler started her career at GMTV, where she spent ten years, latterly as a senior producer for all political coverage. Her work at GMTV included a two year stint at New York Bureau Chief where she oversaw coverage of a variety of US news and features stories including terror threats; the 2004 Bush/Kerry Election; Hurricane Season and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Most recently she has been working in government, firstly as an adviser to then Home Secretary Jacqui Smith and then Andy Burnham when he was Secretary of State for Health.

Chris Cartwright, Managing Director, Burson-Marsteller’s Corporate Practice commented: “Katie is a seasoned media strategist and communications adviser – and we are very pleased to have her on board. She has a unique mix of journalistic nous, calmness under pressure, and the ability to mould communications strategies for senior, high profile figures – skills our clients will find very valuable. She joins a strong, growing and award-winning Corporate team here at B-M.”

Katie Myler commented: “It has been a great privilege to work with Ed Miliband over recent months and to play a part in helping him become leader of the Labour party. However, having spent the last few years in politics, I always intended to develop my career away from Westminster. I am delighted to be joining Burson-Marsteller. It has a great reputation as one of the go-to PR agencies and I am very much looking forward to working with Chris and his team on a wide range of exciting and challenging projects.”

Burson-Marsteller last month won PR Week’s International Consultancy of the Year award for 2010.
