(ISC)2® Announces Cyber Security Awareness Month Activities

(ISC)2® (“ISC-squared”), the world’s largest information security professional body and administrators of the CISSP®, today announced the details of its participation in the 7th Annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) this month.

(ISC)2 will be participating in two events next week hosted by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), organizers of NCSAM:

• Kicking off the month, a public National Cyber Security Awareness Month Launch Event will be held Monday, Oct. 4 at the Seattle Public Library in Seattle from 9 a.m. to noon. (ISC)2 Senior Manager of Communications Sarah Bohne will participate in panels on “Public-Private Partnerships” and “Keeping Consumers Safe.”

• A Unified Message for Cybersecurity event will be held next Wednesday, Oct. 6 by the NCSA and the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Intel headquarters in Silicon Valley. The event will feature a panel on workforce development that includes (ISC)2 General Counsel, Dorsey Morrow, CISSP-ISSMP.

(ISC)2 member Dan Waddell, CISSP, CAP, of Deloitte & Touche, will present the organization’s Safe and Secure Online presentation to children and parents attending the inaugural HacKid conference on Oct. 9th and 10th in Cambridge, Mass.

(ISC)2’s Safe and Secure Online program is a first-of-its-kind, nationwide initiative that brings top cyber security professionals from business and government into classrooms to teach cyber safety and security to kids ages 11-14 at no cost. The program tackles relevant issues such as cyberbullying, social networking, online predators, identity theft, online reputation and more.

HacKid is the brainchild of CISSP Chris Hoff, who has created an interactive, hands-on experience for children and their parents to inspire interest and understanding of technology.

“As the leading professional body for the information security industry, we are proud to support the goals of National Cyber Security Awareness Month again this year,” said W. Hord Tipton, CISSP-ISSEP, CAP, CISA, executive director of (ISC)². “It is part of our mission to make the cyber world a safer place for everyone, and our members are willing, expert ambassadors who are giving back to their communities.”
