New products help OEMS meet emission regulations, enhance connectivity and electrify commercial vehicles

HANNOVER, Germany — Delphi Automotive will display (Hall 17, stand No. A08) its latest commercial vehicle offerings at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show, being held here September 23 – 30. New products on display at Delphi’s booth include:

Innovative Heavy Duty Common Rail Systems

Delphi will announce substantial new business wins for its F2E and F2P distributed pump common rail technologies. Previewed as a development project at the 2008 IAA, the new systems – designed for operation at up to 3,000 bar – provide an cost-effective way for manufacturers to meet Euro VI, US10 and Japan PNLTR. Delphi will also announce significant new business for its F2R common rail system, which has a conventional common rail architecture.

“F2E and F2P provide an alternative to EUI- and EUP-based injection systems and will help our customers ensure compliance with the toughest emissions standards worldwide through at least 2020,” said Delphi Diesel Heavy Duty Global Sales Manager Richard Green. “We’ll be exhibiting both systems at the IAA and will have senior specialists available to discuss products that meet the pressing emissions and fuel economy challenges faced by the heavy duty vehicle industry.”

New Harsh Environment Series family of connectors

At this year’s IAA CV show, Delphi will display its new Harsh Environment Series (HES) family of connectors. These fully interchangeable connection systems for commercial vehicles feature superior sealing, retention and current carrying capability as compared to standard pin-and-sleeve terminals on the market today. Through the use of a high conductivity material, Delphi’s HES Connection Systems deliver improved retention and overall robustness. An exclusive recessed three-rib design accounts for the improved sealing rate.

Across the globe, the reliance on gathering data, evaluating it quickly and responding accordingly is becoming increasingly critical. Commercial vehicles are relying more heavily on GPS functionality and wireless communications to increase productivity and eliminate error. Electrical/electronic architecture systems must reliably transfer power and data in very harsh conditions in order to improve safety, performance and efficiency. Delphi’s wiring systems, backed with global service and technical support, have been proven in the harshest environments encountered by commercial vehicles.

New Charge Port Coupler technology

Delphi will also showcase its new Charge Port Coupler technology, a new charging technology intended to make charging full- and partial-electric vehicles more accessible and practical for consumers. The compact, portable charging unit plugs into a standard power outlet, and can be stored in the trunk of electric city transporters such as buses, delivery trucks and other utility vehicles. This is just one of the charging solutions Delphi has in development to help facilitate a realistic and reliable infrastructure for electric vehicles around the globe.

In Germany, Delphi is working with the Bochum University of Applied Science on the development of the electrical system and components for a two-person, inner-city transportation electric vehicle known as the “BOmobil” project. The project offers Delphi the chance to develop, from the initial car design stage, an electrical/electronic architecture solution with most advanced components and comfort features. It was the only project, out of 54 proposals, to be funded by the German government without any modifications.
