Itís Back to School but for Some itís Back to Mold and IAQ Problems
UltraViolet Devices, Inc. technology prevents contamination of schools by eliminating mold, bacteria and viruses from HVAC systems and providing surface disinfection.
August is the time of year that millions of children across the country begin the new school year. Many school districts use the summer months to conduct maintenance and renovation projects since buildings are unoccupied. While this activity is necessary for building maintenance and classroom improvements, some work may produce aerosolized dust and debris with microbial contamination.
Unfortunately, indoor air quality (IAQ) problems occur often in schools. Not only can construction and repair projects initiate problems, but many school building are older facilities that are prone to leaks and plumbing problems. Any excessive moisture can quickly turn into a mold problem. Classrooms already face threats from infectious diseases such as Swine Flu (H1N1). But mold and bacteria that can spread by contaminated air or surfaces are also a major concern.
In the July issue of Indoor Environmental Connections an article entitled, ďCase Study-School District Tackles IAQĒ highlights what Mequon-Thiensville School District in Wisconsin did to improve the indoor air quality in their facilities. The Director of Maintenance and Operations decided to utilize ultraviolet (UV) technology solutions from UltraViolet Devices to help clean and disinfect the air and surfaces of the districtís classrooms and common areas.
ďUV technology is very effective for air and surface disinfection in schools,Ē reports Paul Cochrane, Public Relations Manager for UVDI. ďUVDIís products are specifically designed to eliminate threats from mold, bacteria and viruses and keep building occupants safe, healthy and productive.Ē
