Buchanan Michigan Hosts "Nonpareil" Arts and Entertainment Event

Southwest Michigan’s Gateway to Wine Country to Feature Fine Art, Food, Gallery Receptions, Wine Tastings and Shopping.


Buchanan, MI -- August 26, 2010 -- On Saturday September 4th of Labor Day Weekend, one of Michigan’s newest National Register Historic Districts will come alive from noon until 10:00 pm with shopping, fine art, music and food on Buchanan’s Front and Main Streets. At the gateway to wine country, Buchanan shopkeepers, gallery owners and artists will exhibit and offer goods under tents, and in transitioning 19th century buildings, with art, furnishings, antiques, textiles and more.

As you approach the Buchanan Arts and Historic District from West Front Street, Buchanan’s newly opened West End Studios will feature: Janet Leazenby, pottery; Cathy Tapia, pottery; Kim Pruitt, paintings; Julian Alcantar, paintings; Dee Devincent, paintings; Jon Hook, pottery; Andrea Peterson, works on paper; and Norma Parcell, paintings.

Downtown you’ll meet, see and purchase fine art works by Nonpareil exhibiting artists: Audrey Moyer paintings, prints, and photographs; Dave Wilkinson stone sculptures; Kathee Kiesselbach prints; Margaret Bryant fiber arts; Steven Shroder rustic furniture and Suzanne Knecht oil paintings.

Musicians performing live at Nonpareil Buchanan include JP Fish and the Peppertones, together with Stan Lesley and Jim Renbarger from 1:00pm to 3:30pm at Mill Alley, followed by “No Expectations” and Jim Peltz.

Highlighting Buchanan’s food scene will be the newly opened Union Coffee House in the 1867 Roe Block. With its Rancilio Green Machine, UCH offers the best espresso and cup of coffee between Chicago and Ann Arbor with Italian method trained baristas, using organic, fair trade coffee. B & W Olde Village Tavern will feature its early Fall Fare, soups, and Greek salads. Wheatberry Tavern & Restaurant’s smoker will be cooking! Vallone’s Sweeties will be popping cheese corn and caramel corn all day and serving up Sherman’s ice cream. The Sweet Shop with its 1940’s vintage soda fountain, located in the 1867 Molsberry, Dunbar, Eply Block, will feature Hudsonville ice cream delights.

The Buchanan Art Center will be exhibiting selected art works by Contemporary Artist, Greg Constantine, together with an evening gallery reception featuring Lemon Creek Wine and live piano music by Sarah Carlson and Judith Gault.

Joining in the festivities are Alan Robandt Vintage and Modern, Thomas Jolly Home and Garden, S.L. Consignment Gallery, Almost Home Gallery, Donald Stuart Antiques, Slocum’s Gifts & Decor, Sweeties Sweet Shop, Union Coffee House, B&W Olde Village Inn, Back Door Cafe, Wheatberry Restaurant & Tavern, The Sweet Shop, Pure Rituals, Dorothy Mottl Realty Group, Fernwood Botanical Garden and Elizabeth Coyne Contemporary Art.

The Buchanan Museum of Fine Art will also continue its retrospective of the work of internationally known artist, Harry Ahn, together with exhibits of selected works of American and European fine art.

Gallery receptions and evening shopping events begin at 6:00pm and continue until 10:00pm, as Nonpareil Buchanan gallery owners open their doors for evening fun.

Located a half mile west of downtown on Front Street, West End Studios will feature Domaine Berrien Cellars and Winery. Meet the wine maker and enjoy tasting the wines. FRONT will be hosting Buchanan’s Wyncroft Winery with its award winning Lake Michigan Shore appellations. The Buchanan Art Center will feature Lemon Creek Winery, along with pianists Sarah Carlson and Judith Gault.
