Siemens solution certified by the WiMAX Forum
Munich, Apr 4, 2006, Siemens is the first major telecommunications supplier whose products have been certified by the WiMAX Forum. The benefit of the certification lies in the fact that it ensures the interoperability of systems from different vendors, thus reducing the investment risks for operators. dThe WiMAX Forum’s goal is to establish WiMAX technology in the market.
The WayMAX@vantage solution from Siemens, which consists of a base station, modems and routers, is one of the first products to pass the interoperability tests in the WiMAX Forum’s international standardization laboratory. It is certified for the WiMAX FDD 3.5 GHz system and thus ready for the future IEEE 802.16e-2005 OFDM profile and the ETSI HiperMAN standard. The IEEE 802.16 standard used today allows data transmission at rates as high as high as 10.5 megabits per second in 3.5 MHz bandwidth.
“Siemens has been a member of WiMAX Forum from the very beginning and is one of the key contributors to IEEE 802.16 standard definition. WiMAX Forum certification confirms the leadership of Siemens’ WiMAX technology" said Christoph Caselitz, President of Mobile Networks at Siemens Communications.
Based on the IEEE 802.16 standard specification, WiMAX provides high-speed, last-mile broadband connectivity to residential and business users for applications including high-speed Internet access, corporate access and Voice over IP telephony. WiMAX wireless technology allows fast deployment of broadband in rural and remote areas where providing services by cable or fiber is difficult or uneconomical.
WayMAX@vantage gives residential users as well as small-to-medium sized enterprises the ability to use broadband applications over wireless connections at an attractive price. WayMAX@vantage is ready for standard evolution to IEEE 802.16e and the associated mobile WiMAX profile.
WayMAX@vantage flexibly adapts to diverse frequency channels (from 1.75 to 14 MHz) with adaptive modulation up to 64 levels, thus delivering higher capacity than any other available product.
