London, As the eyes of the world turn to Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics, UPS, the British Olympic Association (BOA) and the British Paralympic Association (BPA) are putting the finishing touches to a logistics project that has spanned several continents and taken months of planning.

As part of its role as the Official Logistics and Express Delivery Supporter of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, UPS is providing all freight and logistics services for Team GB’s kit and equipment, including ocean freight, air freight and ground transportation at the Olympic Village in Vancouver.

The Team GB logistical journey began in the UK in December 2009 with UPS shipping over 4 tons (8,800 lbs) of items in a 6m (20ft) ocean freight container to Vancouver. Air freight operations started in January 2010 with the transportation of four bobsleighs to the training camps in Salt Lake City and Lake Placid. At the same time, skis were air lifted from Germany to Vancouver and opening ceremony parade outfits were flown in from China.

Back in the UK, UPS helped Adidas to distribute the official kit to Team GB athletes, while in Canada; UPS will provide key support to Team GB within two Olympic Village sites by not only storing and delivering in excess of 500 items, but also by assembling items of furniture for the Village.

UPS, as an Official Supporter of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games has responsibility for virtually all the distribution and logistics services for the London 2012 Games, as well as providing support for the BOA in the lead up to 2012.

Alan Williams, UPS Director London 2012 Sponsorship & Operations, said, “We are extremely proud to support Team GB in Vancouver. This is a fitting milestone as we progress towards London 2012 and demonstrates our expertise in global supply chain and bespoke logistics solutions.”
