Dow Corning, one of the world’s largest developers and manufacturers of silicon- based materials, has expanded its presence in Central Europe with a new commercial office in Warsaw, Poland. The company intends to work more closely with local businesses as they focus on modernization, improved efficiency and sustainable growth.

The office will house sales professionals and experts in silicone technologies to provide the country’s vibrant construction, personal care, processing and manufacturing industries with silicon-based materials and solutions. It will form part of a network to support the Central and European region alongside its commercial centers in Istanbul and Moscow. The company expects the office will have as many as 10 employees within the next year.

“Central Europe, and in particular Poland, is an attractive region with a resilient economy, skilled workforce and growing modern industry,” said Dr. Stephanie A. Burns, Dow Corning’s chairman, president and CEO.“We recognize the region’s growing importance in the global economy and want to ensure the benefits of Dow Corning’s silicon-based materials and technology are easily available to help local businesses to grow and compete.”

Dow Corning’s business activities in Poland began in the 1970s providing materials and expertise to key sectors of the economy through several local distributors. Dow Corning plans to grow its presence while playing an important role in Poland’s intense infrastructure development.

“We have done extremely well to grow our business in this region in the last few years, even when servicing from afar. Now is our chance to better serve local customers through both Dow Corning® and our XIAMETER® brands,” said John Lyon, Regional President for Eastern Europe. “The significant evolution of the Central and Eastern European markets in business opportunities and the priorities around modernization, efficiency and environmental improvement are evidence of the many opportunities for silicon based materials and technology to help the region continue its growth.”

Dow Corning is seeking collaboration opportunities in the region, not just with customers, but also with academic, government and other research organizations that are focused on innovating products and process to make them more efficient and environmentally sustainable.

“Through permanent presence Dow Corning will have a better understanding of the region and serve local needs better,” said Lyon. “We aim to build relationships with local institutions, help develop future silicon experts and business leaders from the local talent pool and contribute to Poland’s efforts of increasing competitiveness and productivity”.

Poland is the latest example, following Bahrain, Russia and Vietnam, of Dow Corning’s effort to expand globally and represents the company’s continued efforts to meet increased demand for silicone products and services around the world

The applications of silicon-based materials are diverse. They are used in nearly every industry and are oftentimes used to make products or processes more efficient and sustainable. For example, silicon technology enables the manufacture of sealants and adhesives that help in the construction of aesthetically beautiful and environmentally sustainable buildings, roads and infrastructure. In textile manufacturing, silicon-based materials are used to improve process efficiency and product quality. In the oil and gas industry, these materials help on-and off-shore drillers cut costs, increase reliability, and boost output.
