Alcatel-Lucent employees volunteer to improve communities throughout China by helping the disadvantaged

Program is part of Alcatel-Lucent’s “International Days of Caring”

Shanghai – Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that more than 1,000 employees of Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell (ASB), Alcatel-Lucent‘s Chinese flagship company, have initiated and participated in 31 local community programs to help the disadvantaged by working with various local charity groups.

ASB volunteer employees from its various business groups contributed thousands of hours to local communities in ten provinces to help the disadvantaged. Their contributions include helping efforts to rebuild of earthquake-stricken areas, providing care for migrant children, homeless people and the sick, as well as protecting the environment in China. In Shanghai, volunteers donated money to save youngsters afflicted with bone cancer while in Sichuan province they participated in the “Save the Children in Sichuan Earthquake-stricken Areas.” ASB engineers from the Qingdao R&D center in Shandong province donated money and time to help teenage girls from poor families, and Beijing employees took time to care for the children of migrants.

These volunteer projects were part of Alcatel-Lucent’s global “International Days of Caring” (IDOC) corporate event, encouraging Alcatel-Lucent employees, customers, retirees, friends and family members worldwide to participate in community service projects. IDOC provides an opportunity for staff to be directly engaged in local community work to help those in need.
