Skills-based sponsorship: Air Liquide supports the Musée du quai Branly in Paris for the conservation of its art collections

Paris, France – WEBWIRE

Under a sponsorship agreement in kind and in skills, Air Liquide has made available to the Musée du quai Branly the expertise of its staff as well as equipment to help modernize its dynamic anoxia system.

Dynamic anoxia is a disinsectisation treatment for works of art through a combination of oxygen deprivation and the injection of nitrogen. This process protects these objects from the risk of biological infestation. In fact, preserving works of art composed of organic materials is a daily challenge for the museum. Thanks to this equipment, artworks that, in some cases, are more than a thousand years old and made out of wood, fabric, or even paper can be protected from insects and thus preserved for a longer period of time.

For the two new dynamic anoxia chambers inaugurated today, Air Liquide provided in particular two nitrogen generators, enabling a reduction in the concentration of oxygen, plus the gas injection system, as well as project engineering and construction supervision. In all, 32 employees were involved and 10 months of work was necessary.

By upgrading this equipment, the artwork treatment capacity is increased fivefold while optimal safety conditions are ensured. It will enable the museum to treat both its own collection and temporary exhibits more frequently.
