Rite Aid Donating $45,000 to the ADA Foundation’s “Give Kids A Smile” Fund

Camp Hill, PA . - When hard economic times hit, people might think about postponing upcoming dental checkups. Yet, regular dental visits are important, and so is good oral hygiene. That’s why Rite Aid and the American Dental Association (ADA) are collaborating to share the latest information on oral health.

A free oral care guide will be available at more than 4,800 Rite Aid stores nationwide and online at www.riteaid.com starting July 26. Rite Aid also is donating $45,000 to ADA Foundation’s Give Kids A Smile® fund that provides free dental care for nearly 500,000 needy children nationwide.

According to ADA President Dr. John S. Findley, “Prevention is the key. Tooth decay, gum disease and other conditions can worsen over time, and that means treatment can be more complicated and costly. That’s why it’s so important to brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste that has the ADA Seal of Acceptance, floss daily, eat a balanced diet and see your dentist regularly.”

Free Oral Care Guide

The free 12-page oral care guide from Rite Aid contains proactive tips from the ADA to help prevent tooth decay, gum disease and gingivitis as well as information on how gum disease may be linked to overall health. Additional topics include:

* Proper brushing/tongue cleaning techniques and tips on treating chronic bad breath, sensitive teeth, teeth grinding, dry mouth, cold sores and canker sores that can be followed in addition to regular dental visits.
* Instructions in case of a dental emergency such as how to increase the chances that a knocked-out tooth can be re-implanted.
* Information on children’s oral health, including the long-term importance of keeping baby teeth healthy as well as tips to help kids enjoy brushing and understand its importance.

While in stores, customers also can consult with Rite Aid pharmacists who can counsel them on drug interactions and potential side effects that can endanger oral health, such as chronic dry mouth.

As an added incentive to encourage customers to take charge of their oral health, the purchase of select oral care products of $15 or more July 26-Sept. 26 will qualify through the Single Check Rebate program at riteaid.rebateplus.com for a free Summer Fun tote with $10 worth of magazines, sugarless chewing gum and other items.

Starting July 26, visitors to Rite Aid’s online health information center at www.riteaid.com/health can view flossing and brushing demonstrations, brush up on additional oral health information, and even play interactive games that make learning about oral health care fun.

Rite Aid’s focus on oral health is part of its yearlong commitment to health and wellness. Each year Rite Aid offers free information, answers and education on health and wellness topics including diabetes, weight management, heart health, allergy awareness and skin care.
