Spencers Named 2009 International Magicians of the Year
LYNCHBURG, VA (July 2009) - Illusionists Kevin and Cindy Spencer (The Spencers) have been recognized as the 2009 MAGICIANS OF THE YEAR by the International Magicians Society. This is the top honor given by the organization, equivalent to an Oscar or Emmy award in the magic industry.
The Merlin Award is given annually in several categories by the IMS, the largest magic organization in the world with more than 37,000 members. Magician of the Year is the pinnacle recognition and has been bestowed upon on a select group of performers including David Copperfield, Doug Henning, Penn & Teller, Siegfried & Roy, and Criss Angel.
“We are very honored to have received this award from our peers,” Spencer said. “We are joining a very prestigious group of performers and it is very humbling to have garnered this recognition.”
Widespread honors and national recognition are no strangers to The Spencers who have left a trail of accolades in their wake. They are the recipients of fifteen (15) Reader’s Choice Awards from C.A.T. Magazine (a leading entertainment industry publication) including America’s Entertainers of the Year and Best Major Performance. Kevin and Cindy have the unique distinction of having received a record number of Reader’s Choice Awards, more than many other touring artists.
Their talents, along with their esteemed work of more than 20 years, has also earned them the prestigious Performing Arts Entertainers of the Year award, bestowed by performing arts and events planners across the country. They have received this award for a record-breaking six consecutive years, holding the title longer than any other performer. What they create is theatre in the truest sense of the word.
They are also the recipients of the Harry Chapin Award for Contributions to Humanity. This honor was given to them to recognize their work with the physically and mentally challenged in hospitals and rehabilitation centers. Through the Healing of Magic and Hocus Focus Project, the Spencers have had a significant impact in communities around the word.
