Visionary Business Leaders Will Take Center Stage at Qualcomm’s 5th Annual Smart Services Leadership Summit

Executives for Amazon, Best Buy, Toyota and Others Converge to Explore the Future of ‘The Internet of Things’

Speakers from ABB, Amazon, Best Buy, Sempra and the West Wireless Health Institute have joined an already impressive roster that includes Qualcomm Chairman and CEO Paul Jacobs and executives from the Business Council for Sustainable Energy, CardioNet, the GSM Association, Toyota and Verizon Wireless, among others.

The Summit will explore the impact of wireless in the world’s evolving global, services-based economy. In this evolving new economy, businesses are leveraging wireless and machine-to-machine (M2M) communications technology to introduce new and disruptive business models, such as the Amazon Kindle and CardioNet. Speakers will discuss success stories of these “new economy” businesses. Similarly, “old economy” businesses are transforming themselves rapidly to meet the challenges of this new world. Bill Gajada, chief commercial officer for the GSMA, will discuss the mobile operators’ perspective on how these challenges are manifesting themselves globally and the steps being taken to overcome them. The Business Council for Sustainable Energy’s Lisa Jacobson will focus on public policy trends around clean technology, including federal legislation, stimulus funds and smart grid. Executives from Qualcomm’s R&D group will provide delegates a peek into the future of wireless.

Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, chairman and chief executive officer of Qualcomm, will highlight some of the latest wireless industry developments and the emergence of the “Internet of Things.” This concept refers to the evolving ability to interconnect business assets, electronic devices and even everyday personal objects wirelessly, allowing them to exchange important data and information using cellular communications technology. Dr. Amy Ostrom, an expert in service blueprinting who is associated with Arizona State University’s Center for Services Leadership, will lead a pre-summit Services Blueprinting workshop open to attendees interested in learning about this versatile and practical technique for service improvement and innovation.
