Lexus Release Most Eco Friendly Hybrid SUV To Date

WEBWIRE

The new RX 450h hybrid by Lexus, released in July 2009, is set to dispel the image of sports utility vehicles as petrol-hungry behemoths that are neither economical to run nor good for the environment.

Utilising second generation hybrid technology, the RX 450h offers the lowest CO2 emissions of any vehicle in its class, also lower than those of a Porsche Boxter S 3.4 Convertible or Mercedes SLK 350 V6 Convertible amongst others, making it a vehicle which is both cheaper to run and more environmentally friendly than any other vehicle in this bracket.

Dubbed a ‘Crossover’ rather than an SUV by Lexus, the RX 450h demonstrates their desire to step away from the preconceived notions of large, uneconomical polluters.

Featuring a 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine with a 165bhp front electric motor (combined 299bhp), the RX 450h can reach a top speed of 124mph with an acceleration of 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds, meaning that the hybrid construction does not affect the performance and driveability and with its aesthetically pleasing interior and exterior design it will prove to be a desirable vehicle amongst consumers.

Available from July 2009 from all Lexus centres, the RX 450h comes with an array of optional extras and ranges from £41,600 to £55,505.

Using approximately 42.8mpg in an urban driving setting, and with CO2 emissions of just 148g/km, the hybrid sets new standards for economical and environmentally friendly performance, while providing the owner with the luxurious driving experience that they have become accustomed to from the Lexus brand.
