Shanxi Mobile selects Alcatel-Lucent to upgrade network

Paris — Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that it has been selected by Shanxi Mobile, a subsidiary of China Mobile, to upgrade 90% of its home location register* (HLR) network in Shanxi Province, northwest of China. The contract was secured through Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent’s Chinese flagship company. The upgraded network will be in commercial operation by end of June 2009.

Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its 8650 subscriber data management (SDM) solution enabling Shanxi Mobile to build a 3G-ready network and fulfill the increasing needs of next generation communications. Alcatel-Lucent’s SDM applications are deployed globally in over 200 networks to support more than 775 million subscribers.

* The home location register (HLR) is a central database that contains details of each mobile phone subscriber that is authorized to use the mobile network.
