Singapore Magic Duo Reveal Illusions for World Record Magic Act During Singapore River Festival 2009
On 25 May 2009, it was announced that Singapore celebrity magic duo, J C Sum & ’Magic Babe’ Ning will close the 9-day long Singapore River Festival 2009 with a world record magic act held at Central Promenade by the Singapore River.
Come Sat, 27 Jun 2009 @ 9:30pm, in front of an expected audience of 5000 people, the illusionists will attempt to perform a world record-setting 15 grand illusions in 5 minutes.
The one-off spectacular is aptly entitled “The Impossible Record” and will be adjudicated by the Singapore Book of Records and the International Brotherhood of Magicians (Singapore & U.S.A). The record is the first ever magic record of any kind to be adjudicated by the Singapore Book of Records and is also being submitted to Guinness World Records.
For the very first time, J C Sum & ‘Magic Babe’ Ning have revealed a partial list of the illusions to be attempted. Over 15 different-genre illusions are being prepared for the world record attempt and some of these include:
360 Sawing – Ning’s body is divided in half and her upper body is rotated around her bottom half
Smoke Chamber – A magical appearance from an empty glass chamber filled with white smoke
Crystal Metamorphosis – An instant double teleportation of J C & Ning
Body Through Steel – Ning passes her body through a plate of steel
Full Throttle – The magical appearance of a sports motorcycle
Spiker – Ning passes a bed of spikes through J C’s body
3 Inch Hole – Ning instantly squeezes into an ATA case through a tiny 3” hole
Walking Through a Person – J C walks through Ning’s body
Extreme Burn – Ning attempts a magical escape from a spear
Shadow Vision – A surreal illusion that sees J C’s torso separated from his body and his head levitated in the air
While some of the illusions are well-known illusions performed in J C Sum & ‘Magic Babe’ Ning’s distinct “urban illusions in the city” style, more than half the illusions are original creations or complete redesigns by J C Sum, who is also an internationally critically acclaimed illusion designer and author.
“The Impossible Record” is free and open to the public.
