MexicanDessertRecipes.Net Revamped with New Content, Updated Design

Hartford, CT - May 23, 2009

The website MexicanDessertRecipes.net, a well-known online source of Mexican recipes for desserts and sweets announced today that they have unveiled a new look for the site. Along with the updated design, MexicanDessertRecipes.net has also added many new recipes in the hopes of raising the profile of Mexican desserts with American cooks.

Mexican food has been rapidly growing in popularity over the last two decades, with the public being ever more aware of Mexican cuisine; however, as the site’s owner, Christine Szalay-Kudra explains, Mexican desserts have not yet become as well known as other Mexican dishes. “It used to be that a taco was an incredibly exotic thing to people and while a lot of Mexican dishes have entered the mainstream, the desserts haven’t yet made the same kind of entry into American cooking.”

“People may be familiar with flan, but most cooks aren’t really aware of Mexican desserts and I wanted to change that. Mexican cuisine has a lot of great dessert recipes to offer and I think that if people were able to cook these Mexican desserts for themselves, they’d catch on in no time. I think bunuelos; for instance would really be a hit if people started making them.”

What, you may ask, is a bunuelo? Szalay-Kudra explains: “It’s a sort of a fritter, usually covered with powdered sugar and cinnamon - they’re great with coffee! But just like Mexican cuisine in general, there’s a lot more to Mexican desserts than you might think; there’s cookies, cakes, pies, candies - the list just goes on and on and with MexicanDessertRecipes.net, I wanted to expose people to all of these incredible desserts.”

If you’re one of those cooks who doesn’t know their flan from their pastel tres leches, Szalay-Kudra’s website is a good place to start. Containing a large number of recipes and general information on Mexican desserts and the place of sweets in the cuisine and culture of Mexico, MexicanDessertRecipes.net may just win over the sweet tooth of Americans yet.

Szalay-Kudra goes on to add “Our neighbors to the south have so much to offer and most Americans don’t no the first thing about these proud people or the lovely cuisine that is a meld of so many different cultures.”
