Celebrating 20 Successful Years, Local Entrepreneur Alistair Goodwin Cleans On

Given the current economic climate, setting up your own franchise business could be a frightening proposition. However developing a new franchise business in a region were you don’t hold much local knowledge, no business contacts and limited family roots, is a challenging prospect. 20 year’s ago, that’s exactly what Wirral based entrepreneur Alistair Goodwin of Chem-Dry Wirral & Deva set out to achieve.

Alistair was destined for a career in the health service after studying a degree in Microbiology at university and working in a Pathology Lab at Kettering General Hospital. However, Alistair always wanted to run his own business and after researching various business models and attending several franchising exhibitions, he opted for the proven business model of franchising rather than setting up a business on his own, believing this route would give him a better chance of success.

Alistair Goodwin, Proprietor of Chem-Dry Wirral & Deva, comments “In 1988, having decided upon a starting up my own business, I opted for a Chem-Dry franchise as I felt their business model could inspire me. It provides me with immense satisfaction to be celebrating 20 year’s of running our successful business. The Chem-Dry Wirral & Deva business bears no resemblance to the business I started in 1988, with my mum playing a critical role in the early days answering the phone and operating out of the back bedroom. We now operate from a 1300 sq foot unit coupled with a workforce of nine dedicated individuals”.

The longevity of the Chem-Dry Wirral & Deva business has been built with a long-term vision in mind. With 20 years outstanding service and constantly assessing the long-term needs of their customer base has proved to be the catalyst for operating a highly successful franchise. Chem-Dry Wirral & Deva proves to be a best practice example of a well managed franchise, with a structure in place that enables their franchise to grow the domestic & commercial side of business even throughout flood surge periods. After 20 year’s within the network, Alistair is still extremely enthusiastic about his business and is a very infectious individual to be in the company of.

Today the domestic and commercial carpet and upholstery cleaning business is still run by Alistair & Jackie and it has evolved to its current size through the provision of exceptional service to their domestic and commercial customers servicing the majority of Cheshire, Liverpool & the Wirral.
