Prescription Drug Darvon May Be Banned - Expect Lawsuits

Raleigh, North Carolina --February 6, 2009
After an investigation urged by the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen, an advisory board to the Food and Drug Administration has urged that the FDA withdraw the prescription pain medication Darvin from the market after 50 years. Darvon, better known to public as Darvocet is one of the most commonly prescribed medications on the market; in the year 2007, more than 20 million prescriptions for Darvon were written by physicians.

Qualitest/Vintage Pharmaceuticals and Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturers and marketers of the drug insist that the drug is safe, despite the FDA panel’s finding that the drug’s high overdose potential and relatively low level of pain relief make it to dangerous for public consumption.

It seems a ban on the drug is imminent and is almost certain to be followed by lawsuits filed by those who may have been harmed by this commonly prescribed drug. After all, it’s not every day that something you always thought of as safe is withdrawn from the market for being hazardous.

Says Attorney Robert Younce of the leading North Carolina Personal Injury site Attorneys NC (, “Americans deserve to know the facts and to be aware of their rights and their options when involved in a personal injury case. Many of our customers tell us that they would’ve made the wrong choices and as a result, undergone stress and lost money had they not been provided the right advice”.

One potential difficulty for those who have suffered as a result of taking Darvon is that it can be difficult and expensive to take on pharmaceutical companies, with their extraordinarily deep pockets. However, Attorney David Vtpil of Attorneys NC tells us: “The general opinion is that Attorneys are too expensive, I am much better off dealing with the insurance company myself. However, little do they know that good personal Injury attorneys actually charge a percentage of the settlement only, so no costs until the settlement is made”.

Every consumer has the right to know whether the drugs they are being prescribed are safe. If you have been harmed by Darvon or suspect that you may have and would like to know more about your rights as a consumer, please contact Attorneys NC for more information at
