Visual-Baseball Introduces Advanced Baseball Analysis Site
Visual-Baseball.com today announced the launch of a powerful new web portal that introduces multiple new features for baseball enthusiasts. Known as VIP (Visual-Baseball InfoPortal), the portal features three powerful applications:
VIP Reporter is a powerful reporting tool that allows users to customize reports using a point and click interface, with access to hundreds of report templates. Each report can be run and then saved to PDF, Excel, CSV, and RTF formats for offline use.
VIP Analyst allows users to sift through baseball data using highly flexible analysis views that permit filtering, sorting, ranking, and charting the data. Far more powerful than a spreadsheet, Analyst is a powerful tool for seeking out data patterns, which can then be downloaded to Excel or other spreadsheet application for further analysis.
VIP Explorer is a query engine that allows for full-text searching, using player names, teams, seasons, and more. Initial results can be filtered and sorted by simply clicking on specific criteria.
“We believe that the Visual-Baseball InfoPortal offers a unique combination of features that will appeal to researchers, analysts, and fantasy enthusaists,” stated Ken Cherven, Founder of Visual-Baseball.com. “VIP provides users with corporate-level features for under $30 per year. The ability to create a customized report, and then schedule, save, and send it to one or more e-mail recipients provides a new level of interaction with baseball statistical data.”
Two membership levels are available to portal users - a community membership that provides access to limited versions of VIP Reporter and Analyst, while a premium membership ($24.95 per year) provides access to the full range of reports and analysis views within Reporter and Analyst. Premium members also have the ability to schedule, save, and e-mail reports. Both membership levels also receive full access to VIP Explorer.
In addition to the features above, each membership level gains full access to community forums and a host of other features provided through the VIP site. For additional information, and to run a live demo of Reporter and Analyst, simply go to http://visual-baseball.com/ and select either the News or Guest Demo page. If you select the guest demo, login as ’guest’ with a password of ’guest’ - use only the actual word, and not the quote marks.
The Visual-Baseball InfoPortal is built using several open source projects, including Liferay and JasperServer. The baseball statistical data is sourced from Baseball-Databank.org and Retrosheet.org. Additional calculations on the data are performed by visual-baseball.com.
