New online tool from Progressive lets drivers customize their car insurance to fit their budgets.

MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio. — Wouldn’t sticking to a budget be easier if you could pick and choose how much you pay for things like cable television, dry cleaning, or even groceries? Well, unfortunately you can’t tell the cable guy that you only want to pay $5 for service this month. But now you can tell your car insurance company how much you want to pay for your policy.

Name Your Price, available exclusively from Progressive, now empowers shoppers to name their price for car insurance.

Here’s how it works:

* Go to www.progressive.com and get a quote. After you’ve entered some information about you and your vehicle, you can tell us how much you want to pay.
* We’ll then show you the closest available package of coverages, limits, and deductibles we offer based on the price you’ve entered.
* You can then drag the “slider” bar to the right or left to see how your coverages and price can change within a range of options. If you drag to the right, your rate will increase as your coverages change (e.g., higher limits, lower deductibles); if you drag to the left, your rate will decrease as your coverages change (e.g., lower limits, higher deductibles).

It’s that easy.

“Drivers want to customize their car insurance so they get the best possible coverage at a price that’s right for them, especially in times of economic uncertainty,” said Dale Willis, Progressive’s Name Your Price manager. “Name Your Price gives people this control — it’s quick, easy, and some people have actually told us it makes shopping for car insurance fun!”

Name Your Price is currently available in 16 states: Calif., Conn., Fla., Ga., Ill., Ind., Kansas, Md., Mich., Mo., Ohio, Okla., Pa., Texas, Wash., and Wisc. A countrywide roll out of the new functionality will continue throughout 2009.
