Tom Hanks to Make Oscar® Show Appearance

01/26/05, Beverly Hills, CA — Two-time Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks will present at the 78th Academy Awards® telecast, show producer Gil Cates announced today.


Hanks, who is a governor and officer of the Academy, won consecutive Oscars in 1993 and 1994 for his leading roles in “Philadelphia” and “Forrest Gump.” He also has been nominated for his leading roles in “Big,” “Saving Private Ryan” and “Cast Away.”


Hanks will be seen next in “The Da Vinci Code.” His other film credits include “The Terminal,” “Catch Me If You Can,” “Road to Perdition,” “Apollo 13,” and “A League of Their Own.”


Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2005 will be presented on Sunday, March 5, 2006, at the Kodak Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. PST. A one-hour red carpet arrivals show will precede the telecast at 4 p.m.
