Commerce & Industry Legal Job Vacancies Still in Demand

WEBWIRE

BCL Legal and particularly Mark Levine and his team have become synonymous with in house legal recruitment in the North of England. They are viewed as the leaders in the field and the most trusted advisors to lawyers seeking to move, or already working, in house.
2008 was another record year for the business. Mark and his team placed more in house lawyers in jobs in the north of England than any other legal recruitment business within a range of sectors including telecommunications, nutrition, banking and pharmaceuticals. We can only name a small number of our clients which include BUPA, Astra Zeneca, HBOS, Skipton Building Society and the Coop.

“We have worked hard to develop our relationships with businesses in the North and this year we began assisting businesses in Birmingham and the Midlands with the recruitment of former Eversheds lawyer Victoria Moore who has recently filled jobs within Holland & Barrett and several other blue chip organisations. We are gradually moving down the M6 and maybe next year we will aim to have a foothold in the City” said Director Mark Levine.

We are able to assist lawyers from NQ level, and even experienced commercial paralegals, through to Head of Legal/ Company Secretary and we are currently receiving on average three instructions a week.

Whilst the economic downturn has affected some areas of private practice as well as some business sectors who were contemplating recruiting their own lawyers, there is still a high demand from our in house clients overall. In fact, they are seeing some of the best lawyers at the 2-4 years PQE level than they have ever seen and are eager to take advantage of the opportunities.

Phil Davies, Senior Legal Adviser at United Utilities certainly agrees: ’Six months ago we were looking to recruit a junior lawyer and decided not to proceed owing to a shortage of quality candidates on the market. Six months on we have certainly taken advantage of the new pool of lawyers on the market and have recently recruited two lawyers, one NQ and one 2 year qualified with the assistance of BCL Legal”.

We have seen an increase in law firms seeking to redeploy current resources and looking for opportunities to second staff to their clients’ legal departments for six months or more while they ride out the storm. This is particularly prevalent in real estate and commercial. Whilst there has been an increase in the demand for employment lawyers in private practice to handle restructures and redundancies we are yet to see instructions from in house legal teams seeking to recruit their own lawyers to do this for them.

If you are looking to make the move in-house or would like an update on current opportunities please contact Mark Levine or Ruth Taylor for Manchester and the North West, Tasmin Sabar for Leeds and Yorkshire or Victoria Moore for Birmingham and the Midlands.
