Alcatel-Lucent names Adolfo Hernandez as head of the Europe, Middle East and Africa Region

Paris - Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that Adolfo Hernandez, a senior executive with a broad industry’s experience, will join the company as head of the newly created Europe, Middle East and Africa Region effective December 1st, 2008.

Adolfo Hernandez will report to Alcatel-Lucent CEO Ben Verwaayen and will be responsible for overseeing all of the company’s sales and operations in this new region. He will be a member of the company’s management committee and his office will be in Paris, France, the company’s headquarters.

Most recently, Adolfo Hernandez was Senior Vice President of Sun’s Global Services Practice, where he was accountable for global services revenue, margin and overall business objectives around the world. During his tenure Sun’s Services has seen a sustained period of revenue growth and margin expansion especially in Managed Services and Professional services

From 2002 until 2006, Adolfo served as President of Sun Microsystems Iberia where he was responsible for all aspects of sales and operations in Spain and Portugal. Prior to joining Sun in 2002, Adolfo was an entrepreneur and co-founded his own company in the mobility solutions software sector. Before that, he spent six years in London with IBM where he held a variety of sales and management positions in the areas of e-Business working with many telecommunications, service providers in the adoption of e-business solutions (supply chain/ERP, mobility, business intelligence...). Adolfo also spent five years at IBM’s European UNIX center in Munich, Germany. He started his sales career at ICR in Spain.

Adolfo Hernandez graduated in Computer Sciences from the University of Granada. He has a Masters degree in Marketing Management and an MBA in Strategic Management from IDE in Madrid. He has also completed several post-graduate programs in institutions like the London Business School.
