Last weekend, Thuringia’s Premier Dieter Althaus visited the new Carl Zeiss site in Karmiel/Israel during his trip through Israel with a delegation from his home state in Germany. For Premier Althaus, the delegation from Thuringian companies and representatives from trade associations and regional media, the visit was a special highlight as Carl Zeiss is currently the only Thuringian company to have invested in Israel. “Israel is renowned for its excellent scientists and innovative technologies. During my trip I had the opportunity to experience these competencies at first hand. I am delighted to see such an outstanding example of successful collaboration between Israeli and Thuringian companies here at Carl Zeiss" Althaus emphasized.

In August of this year Carl Zeiss acquired the Israeli firm Pixer Technology in Karmiel/ Israel. Pixer has developed innovative femtosecond laser technology for the semiconductor technology, with which critical parameters on photomasks can be inspected and improved. Therefore, Pixer is supplementing the know-how of the Jena-based Semiconductor Metrology Systems (SMS) Division. The bundling of competencies in Jena and Karmiel will make it possible to develop new, future-oriented products for the semiconductor market and to safeguard and increase employment.

Dr. Oliver Kienzle, Managing Director of Pixer, welcomed the delegation and gave an indication of the company’s strategic goals in Israel: “We value the numerous possibilities that the region offers us and are open to further collaborations both with scientific institutions and with companies.“
