NetApp to Lead Industry Discussions Around the Future of Solid-State Storage and Parallel NFS in November 2008

NetApp Employees Also Named to ABI and SNIA Boards

In November, NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) will present at two industry events and help drive discussions around the future of storage technology.

JEDEC Board of Directors Meeting
Dr. Jon Elerath, reliability engineer at NetApp, will represent the International Disk Drive Equipment and Materials Association (IDEMA) and present at the JEDEC Board of Directors Meeting on November 3, 2008. His presentation is titled “How IDEMA Can Help the Development of Reliability Standards for Solid-State Storage.” Elerath is the chairman of the IDEMA Reliability Standards Committee, which is comprised of members from all the top storage producers (including Seagate, Hitachi GST, Western Digital, SanDisk, and STEC) and users (including NetApp, HP, Sun, Intel, SanDisk, IBM, and SNIA).

Supercomputing 2008
NetApp will also participate in Supercomputing 2008 to showcase scalable storage solutions for high-performance computing that help scientists, researchers, and developers achieve faster results while reducing costs. At the NetApp booth, attendees will learn about how NetApp is leading the advancement of pNFS, a proposed extension of NFSv4.1 to allow parallel data access. In addition, NetApp will highlight the latest caching solutions for read-intensive workloads and show how HPC environments with 10-Gigabit Ethernet can benefit from Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE). NetApp Industry Appointments in October
In October, Brian Pawlowski, chief technology officer and senior vice president at NetApp, was appointed to the board of trustees of the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology (ABI). Since 1995, ABI has developed tools and programs designed to help industry, academia, and government recruit, retain, and develop women technology leaders. By providing inclusive platforms designed to ensure that women’s voices, ideas, and spirits will result in higher levels of technical innovation, ABI delivers programs that are changing the world for women and for technology.

At SNW Fall 2008, in Dallas, Texas, the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) elected and appointed three NetApp staff members to the association’s boards and councils. David Dale, director of Industry Standards at NetApp, was elected to the SNIA Board of Directors and was also elected vice chair of the SNIA Data Management Forum. Alan Yoder, a member of the NetApp technical staff, was elected vice chairman of the SNIA 2009 Technical Council. Blair Semple, NetApp Storage Security evangelist, was elected as SNIA vice chair of the Storage Security Industry Forum. The SNIA is a not–for–profit global organization made up of 400 member companies and 7,000 individuals spanning virtually the entire storage industry. SNIA’s mission is to lead the storage industry worldwide in developing and promoting standards, technologies, and educational services to empower organizations in the management of information.
