Yo San University Holds Second Founders Seminar

WEBWIRE

The last weekend in September, Yo San University founders, Dr. Maoshing Ni and Dr. Daoshing Ni offered their second YSU “Founders’ Seminar.” The first Founders’ Seminar, held this past summer, was such a success that Yo San committed itself to offering a Founders’ Seminar each trimester.

The topic for the recent Fall seminar was Cultivating Your Spirit to Become an Effective Healer. Once again, the weekend had a great turn-out, with both students and staff gathering Saturday morning for a traditional Taoist shrine ceremony. Teri Powers, Doctoral Program Director, was among them.

Dr. Powers, who has been practicing traditional Chinese medicen for many years, but is new to Yo San this year, reflected, “The shrine ceremony, and words of advice from Dr. Dao, was grounding and insightful, helping me remember why I chose Chinese Medicine as a career.”

The first day of this two-day seminar was led by Dr. Dao and consisted of qigong interactive therapy and practice, exploration of the Five Arts of Taoism, and an introduction to Taoist Intimate Practices. The second day was led by Dr. Mao, who focused on techniques for practical integration of mind, spirit and body in healing, on protection, clearing and trauma-releasing practices and on spiritual cultivation for enhancing clinical care.

The aim of the Founders’ Seminars is to introduce students to the Ni family traditions and to welcome them to the spiritual, academic, and practical pieces of this medicine that will come to make up their Yo San experience. The Ni brothers founded Yo San University almost two decades ago, based on the principles of their own family’s healthcare knowledge that was passed down from a 38-generation lineage. The Founders’ Seminars provides the Yo San community with insights into, as well as first-hand experience with, Chinese Medicine and spiritual practices from the founders’ perspective. We welcome all students, faculty and staff to come take advantage of this new, and unique, opportunity!
