HBO’s “True Blood” Show Sucks in eBook Readers at BooksOnBoard; Charlaine Harris’s Southern Vampire Mysteries Dominate the Bestseller List
Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mysteries surged to the top of BooksOnBoard’s bestseller lists in the last week. Spurred by the popular new HBO series “True Blood” based on the popular eBook series, Sookie Stackhouse is enjoying Harry Potter-like audience response.
The show stars Academy Award winner Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse, a supernaturally gifted Southern cocktail waitress, Sookie has a crush on Bill Compton, the mysterious vampire down the street, played by Stephen Moyer.
“Vampires are the new bad boys of romance,” according to BooksOnBoard CEO Bob LiVolsi. “Sookie Stackhouse satisfies Buffy the Vampire fans, Twilight saga fans and Mystery fans - and offers biting humor…”
With the premiere of Trueblood, seven eBooks in the series suddenly jumped into the Top 20 Bestselling General Fiction eBooks, including Dead Until Dark, the first novel in the series. Other bestselling Sookie Stackhouse novels include Dead to the World, Living Dead in Dallas, Club Dead, Definitely Dead, Dead as a Doornail, All Together Dead, and Dead to Worse (the latest in the series).
“The series may be the new Sex in the City for today’s generation,” said BooksOnBoard Director of Operations Nathan Johnson, interrupted on his way out to be fitted for fangs. “Both shows are based on popular book series, and viewers seem completely entranced with both the eBooks and the shows.”
“True Blood” premiered earlier this month, and has quickly become the most popular show in that time slot. The show airs Sunday nights at 9pm on HBO.
Alan Ball, the show’s creator, describes “True Blood” as “popcorn for smart people.”
