WEBWIRE

A new record for www.olympic.org was established on the occasion of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad - Beijing 2008. Approximately 5.7 million surfers visited the olympic.org web site from 8 to 24 August. A total of 25.5 million page views were recorded.

This new, all-time record has more than doubled the figures reached at the 2004 Athens Games, when the web site was viewed by approximately 2.8 million visitors for the same Games-time period.

The top five countries visiting the olympic.org web site were the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Canada and France.

New olympic.org features a real hit!
Many of the new, exciting features which were developed for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games have proven to be very popular with visitors. For example, the new multimedia gallery recorded approximately 5.2 million views, including a staggering 1.2 million videos watched. As a point of interest, during the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, only 125,000 videos were viewed on olympic.org.

Mini Game and online quizzes
It is important to note that when the IOC unveiled its dramatically improved web site a few weeks ago, it also included, for the first time ever, interactive online gaming and challenging quizzes which users could play, giving them the chance to win the official video game of the Beijing Games. This interactive section has proven to be extremely popular with the general public and has generated over two million page views, making it the third most-seen content on olympic.org during the Games.
