Boeing Awarded E-4B Product Support Integrator Contract
ST. LOUIS, Dec. 21, 2005 -- The U.S. Air Force has awarded Boeing [NYSE:BA] a contract as Product Support Integrator (PSI) for the USAF E-4 National Airborne Operations Center fleet. This is a five-year, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract vehicle with one five-year option. The contract has a $2 billion cost cap.
Boeing will lead a “best of industry” team consisting of Boeing, L3 Communications, Rockwell Collins,and Greenpoint Technology Inc. in fulfilling the contract.
“This team will serve as the lead system integrator for the E-4 fleet using a total-life cycle, systems engineering approach,” said Pat Finneran, vice president and general manager for Boeing Logistics Support Systems. “This PSI contract will provide increased readiness to our national command authorities and allow us to integrate multiple contracts and activities into a single contracting vehicle, providing best value to the warfighter.”
The E-4 serves as the National Airborne Operations Center for the president and secretary of defense. In case of national emergency or destruction of ground command control centers, the aircraft provides a highly survivable, command, control and communications center to direct U.S. forces, execute emergency war orders and coordinate actions by civil authorities.
Boeing has supported the E-4 fleet of four modified Boeing 747 aircraft for 25 years in the areas of contractor logistics support, engineering services and technical order support.
